Myths vs reality

Some stories outlive their evidence. A rhyme, a headline or a plausible round figure gets repeated until it is common knowledge, and the original record quietly says something else.

Each clip in this series takes one widely repeated claim and puts the actual figures next to it. The point is not that the stories are always wrong — sometimes they are close — but that almost nobody repeating them has seen the numbers.
