Donut
A share-of-total ring that builds slice by slice, then pulls the key slice out.
How to read it
Each arc is a share of the whole, and the whole is 100%. Compare arcs against the ring rather than against each other.
Best for
Parts of a whole, when there are few enough slices to tell apart.
When not to use it
There are more than about five slices, or several sit close in size — angles are read poorly and small differences vanish.
The common mistake
Using one where the parts do not sum to a meaningful total, so the ring implies a whole that does not exist.
