World map
A dot-matrix world map: circle size and a flag mark each country's value, and the camera follows the narration from country to country.
How to read it
Circle area is the value and the circle sits on the country. Geography locates; size measures.
Best for
“Who leads on X” stories where rough geography helps and exact borders do not.
When not to use it
The story is really about rates per person, or the leaders are small countries whose circles swamp their own borders.
The common mistake
Colouring countries by a total instead of a rate, which mostly draws a map of where people live.
