Funnel
A true-width drop-off funnel: a stream of dots spills out at every step, a live counter falls stage by stage, and the leakiest step cracks open at the end.
How to read it
Each band is a stage and its width is how many were left. The dots spilling out of each gap are the people lost there. Read the step-to-step drop beside each gap, not only the width; a dashed outline, when shown, is a typical funnel for comparison.
Best for
Any staged process where the question is where people fall out.
When not to use it
The stages are not strictly sequential, or people can re-enter the process part-way through.
The common mistake
Quoting a single stage's conversion rate alongside the end-to-end rate as though they measured the same thing.
