Histogram
Frequency bars across bins.
How to read it
The bars are bins rather than categories, so their order is fixed. Height is how many cases fell in that range.
Best for
Distributions, especially where the average hides the shape.
When not to use it
The data is categorical — that is a bar chart, and there the gaps between bars mean something.
The common mistake
Adjusting bin widths until the distribution looks the way you expected. Bin size can manufacture a second peak or erase one.
