Odds grid
How to read it
Every cell is one possible outcome and exactly one is lit. Count the grid rather than reading the percentage. When the grid is only a sample, the zoom-out shows how small it is next to the real N, and an odds ladder puts the figure on a log scale against familiar long shots.
Best for
Probabilities and rarities, where a percentage is abstract but a grid is not.
When not to use it
You only have a vague likelihood rather than a real one-in-N figure. Very large N is handled — the grid is scaled down and zoomed out, and the ladder keeps rival odds comparable — but a grid alone can't show it.
The common mistake
Treating “1 in N” as a schedule. One-in-a-hundred odds do not mean it happens once every hundred tries.
