Versus
A head-to-head duel: two numbers counting up against each other on a tug-of-war bar, a crown for the winner on the verdict.
How to read it
Two panels count up and the bar between them shows each side's share of the two figures as they climb, so the lead can change hands. The crowned side is the winner; the gap between the final figures is the entire claim.
Best for
Two options, teams or eras where the interesting thing is which one wins. Also works as a best-of-three, or a guess-the-winner with the figures hidden until the reveal.
When not to use it
There are really three or more contenders, or the two sides were measured in different ways.
The common mistake
Staging a duel between figures that were never comparable — different years, different definitions, different denominators.
